ART in ACTION

The Liveries Wood Group comprising the Carpenters, Joiners & Ceilers, Upholders, Turners and the Furniture Makers gave demonstrations of their craft at this popular exhibition held from 17-20 July 2008. The Upholders were represented by two Liverymen, Gregory Cupitt Jones and Roy Theobald, each upholstering items of seat furniture in the  traditional manner, to give the visitors at least some idea of the techniques and eye for line required to produce an item that is in keeping with the period of its manufacture.

The Liveries Wood Group

The Liveries Wood Group jointly represents the interests of the Livery Companies in the City of London representing and promoting skilled trades in wood. There were displays and demonstrations from groups and organisations with whom the Companies are closely linked including the Register of Professional Turners, the Building Crafts College, upholsterers and colleges of furniture making. A chance to learn about the Companies and the trade skills they have represented over the centuries.
