The Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers  was formed in 1952 by former Liverymen of the Upholders and was granted livery status on 29th March 1963. The aim of the company is: ‘To promote and develop the design and making of furniture in the United Kingdom, and its marketing and selling worldwide’. It supports its trade through the award of Guild Marks and the Claxton Stevens award. The Livery Hall provides a venue for the Furniture Industry in the City.

The Liveries Wood Group is an informal association of the five Livery Companies of the City of London connected to the wood using industries.

The Carpenters Company (26)

The Carpenters’ Company can trace its origins to the thirteenth century as a medieval trade guild established to look after the welfare and interests of carpenters living and working in London. The Carpenters’ Company has been based on London Wall since its first Hall was built in 1429. The Company today continues its centuries’ long tradition of charitable and educational activities and maintains close links with the carpentry and woodworking professions, in particular through the Building Crafts College.

The Joiners and Ceilers Company (41)

The first charter of the Worshipful Company of Joiners and Ceilers is dated 14th April 1571. The Company continues to foster the trades of joinery and carving and promote excellence through its awards and bursaries. Like all Livery companies, it is committed to helping those less fortunate through charitable fund raising and the current Master is busy raising money for his charity, Botton Village, one of the Camphill communities. In addition to the building industry where the craft is still practised, the Company has Liverymen from the modern City craft of financial services and this mixed bag are happy to continue the Company tradition of being the "Jolly Joiners". The Company’s last Hall was destroyed by enemy action in 1940.

The first Master and Wardens of the Worshipful Company of Upholders were elected on 1st March 1360 although it did not receive its charter until 14th June 1626. Its aims today are: To uphold the Livery of the Upholders, ensuring it continues to flourish. Upholding the craft of the Upholder and through charitable giving, uphold individuals and organisations connected with the trade and Livery. Today the closest trades to Upholder are Upholstery, Undertaking and Soft Furnishing.

The company’s first charter dates from 1604. The Guild aimed to regulate its own trade and social behaviour;  its products included the measures used in ale houses. The Company has made its home in the Apothecaries’ Hall. Today it runs several competitions in Turning and supports the Wizardry in Wood Exhibition.
